COURSE DESCRIPTION:

Integrating Technology will expose you to  an array of applications and Web 2.0 tools to expand and improve learning opportunities for your students The course will provide you with grounding in readily available software. Key concepts and skills learned include the ability to identify and use appropriate tools and implement technology-integrated curriculum that supports content and instruction.

You will learn to develop learning opportunities based on the Vermont Standards and Grade Expectations and the International Standards for Technology Education (ISTE). You will examine research that supports effective use of technology in the classroom. The instruction throughout will focus on developing technology-enhanced lessons, activities, and instructional support that responds to individual learning differences. Topics will include research on technology enhanced learning, creating flexible curricula, managing technology in a classroom, choosing grade appropriate technology, and assessment of students' progress.

 

FIELD EXPERIENCE:

Thoughout the semster we will be working with middle school and high school students as collaborators and mentors.  Using technology tools that allow for collaboration despite physical distance like wikis, blogs, and skype, we will work with practicing teachers and their students to create and complete technology-enhaced projects.

 

 

MY TEACHING PHILOSOPHY:

Students learn through being actively engaged in each class.  I teach using a variety of strategies including lecture, small group interactions, and web tools which foster self-reflection. I will model current teaching methods.  The assignments I have chosen are meaningful to students intending to be reflective teachers. It is essential for students to complete assigned readings and post comments prior to class.

  • Demonstrate a sound understanding of technology operations and concepts. 

  • Demonstrate continual growth in technology knowledge and skills to stay abreast of current and emerging technologies.

     

2. Planning and Designing Learning Environments and Experiences:

  • Plan and design effective learning environments and experiences supported by technology.

  • Design developmentally appropriate learning opportunities that apply technology-enhanced instructional strategies to support the diverse needs of learners.

  • Identify and locate technology resources and evaluate them for accuracy and suitability.

  • Plan strategies to manage student learning in a technology-enhanced environment.

     

3. Teaching, Learning and the Curriculum:

  • Facilitate technology-enhanced experiences that address content standards and student technology standards.

  • Use technology to support learner-centered strategies that address the diverse needs of students.

  • Apply technology to develop students' higher order skills and creativity.

     

4. Productivity and the Professional Practice:

  • Use technology to enhance your productivity and professional practice.

  • Use computer-based technologies to access information and enhance professional productivity.

  • Use technology to communicate and collaborate with peers, parents, and the larger community in order to nurture student learning.
